“Only in God, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope comes from Him” (Psalm 62:5).
This verse teaches us that true silence goes beyond the absence of words. There is another kind of silence we must cultivate: silence in relation to ourselves. This means controlling our thoughts, avoiding the agitation of imagination, and not allowing our minds to dwell excessively on what we hear, say, or remember from the past. We must free ourselves from the internal distractions that distance us from the presence of God.
Making progress in spiritual life requires discipline over our imagination. When we manage to direct our minds to what truly matters and do not allow ourselves to be carried away by purposeless daydreams, we experience a deeper peace. Disordered thoughts are like turbulent waves, but the one who learns to keep their mind fixed on the will of God finds stability and security.
What truly exists is God—a God of love, forgiveness, and salvation. If we dedicate our lives to pleasing Him, seeking to obey His holy and powerful Law, all good things will happen. God honors those who honor Him. When we choose to live in obedience, we enjoy His blessings, His protection, and above all, the certainty of eternal life through Jesus, the Son of God. May we cultivate this inner silence and keep our hearts and minds steadfast in the only One who can lead us to true peace. -Adapted from Nicolas Grou. See you tomorrow, if the Lord allows.
Pray with me: Dear God, it is true that true peace can only be found when my soul learns to wait silently in You. It is not just about being outwardly silent, but about quieting my heart, controlling my thoughts, and not letting myself be carried away by worries and distractions that draw me away from Your presence.
My Father, today I ask You to help me discipline my mind, so that I do not get lost in useless daydreams or in memories that take me away from the present. I want to focus on what truly matters: obeying Your will and living according to Your commandments. I know that disordered thoughts are like waves that destabilize me, but when my mind is fixed on You, I find security and stability. Teach me to rest in Your truth, without being moved by fleeting illusions.
Oh, Most Holy God, I adore and praise You because You are the only solid foundation amid life’s uncertainties. Thank You because You honor those who honor You and guide those who choose to live in obedience. I know that by trusting in You, I will enjoy Your blessings, Your protection, and above all, the hope of eternal life. May I cultivate this inner silence, keeping my soul anchored in You, the only source of true peace. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your powerful Law is a reliable support in my life. I never tire of exalting Your commandments. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
