Eternal life will not be given to those who claim to follow Jesus while knowingly refusing to obey the laws His Father commanded. Whoever rejects God’s Law in part rejects God’s authority in full. The Sabbath, circumcision, forbidden meats, the use of tzitzits, the beard, and every other commandment must be received with the seriousness they deserve by every soul that truly wants salvation.

TWO FALSE PREMISES

The arguments used by Christian leaders to reject obedience to God’s Law given to us through the prophets fall under two false premises.

FALSE PREMISE 1: A DIFFERENT PATH FOR GENTILES

The first is that the Old Testament was for the benefit of the Jews, while the New Testament created a different path of salvation for Gentiles. The implication is that, for some reason, Gentiles are incapable of obeying the commandments that had been obeyed for centuries, including by Jesus Himself, His parents, relatives, apostles, and disciples. Gentiles supposedly needed an easier path, one in which the eternal Law of God no longer had to be followed in order to gain eternal life.

This false belief ignores the fact that nowhere in the four Gospels did Jesus mention that He was starting a new religion for Gentiles. If something as serious as this were true, Christ would have left no doubt about it. He would have taught it in plain language and in many places for everyone to understand.

Furthermore, nowhere do the prophetic passages in the Old Testament say that the Messiah would come to create a new path of salvation for Gentiles in which obedience to God’s laws would no longer be required.

Whenever the prophets speak of the Gentiles, they make one thing clear: God expected the Gentiles to obey His laws just as He expected the Jews to obey them. No more and no less.

  • “There shall be one law for the native-born and for the foreigner who lives among you” (Exodus 12:49).
  • “The assembly must have the same laws, which will apply both to you and to the gentile who lives among you; this is a perpetual decree” (Numbers 15:15).
  • “The gentile who joins himself to the Lord, to serve Him, thus becoming His servant… and who remains firm in my covenant, I will also bring them to my holy mountain” (Isaiah 56:6-7).

The plan of salvation that exists today is the same plan that has existed since the beginning of the world: the sinner, Jew or Gentile, repents of his sins and proves that his repentance is genuine by seeking with all his strength to obey all the commandments of God. The Lord sees his heart and his changed behavior, and only then does He send him to be washed by the blood of the Lamb. This is the plan of salvation that makes sense, because it is true: “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day” (John 6:44).

FALSE PREMISE 2: CHRISTIANS SHOULD FOLLOW MEN WHO ABANDONED GOD’S LAW

The second false premise is that after Jesus returned to His Father, the first churches stopped obeying many of the laws of God, and that we should follow their example and do the same. The idea is that some men came after Jesus and taught the churches that many commandments which Jesus and His disciples had faithfully followed, such as circumcision, the Sabbath, forbidden meats, and others, could be safely ignored by the new followers of Christ.

Moses talking with young Joshua in front of the israelite crowd.
The sacred and eternal Law of God has been kept faithfully since the beginning of time. Jesus, His family, friends, apostles, and disciples all obeyed God’s commandments.

The reality, however, is that Jesus never told us that after Him some men would come with a new teaching about salvation that we should hear and follow. There are no prophecies in the Old Testament or in the four Gospels about anyone God would send after the Messiah with new doctrines for His people. Everything we need to know about how to be saved was taught by Christ. Jesus’ words are sufficient.

God never commanded us to imitate the rebellion of men. Nowhere are we told to follow those who drifted into disobedience, even if they appeared close to the time of Christ and claimed authority. The apostles and disciples who learned from the very lips of Jesus were faithful to the commandments God had already revealed through the prophets. If others later turned away from that path, it is not for us to follow their departure, but to follow the Master and the obedience He Himself practiced.

WHAT YOU WILL FIND ON THIS SITE

In the articles on this site, we will examine in detail the commandments that most churches ignore, soften, or explain away. You will see that the Law of God is not an impossible burden, as many have been taught, but a clear and righteous path. God did not give hundreds of confusing demands to trap the soul. His commandments are few, powerful, wise, and entirely within reach of those who truly fear Him and desire eternal life. The problem has never been that God asked too much, but that men love convenience more than obedience.

Disobedience to God’s laws brings chaos to every part of life: the mind, the home, relationships, finances, and even the body. But those who submit to the powerful Law of God should expect exactly what He has promised to the obedient: blessings, deliverance, protection, and His favor in every area of life (Psalm 1:2-3). His commandments bring order, stability, and the deep peace of a clean conscience before Him. Above all, they bring the certainty that one is walking on the path of salvation. None of these good things should be expected by those who knowingly resist the Law of God. The Lord does not pour out His best on those who refuse His authority.
