Defenders of the false doctrine of “unmerited favor” believe that the God of the Scriptures is flexible, that His laws do not need to be obeyed to the letter. Therefore, they often say that, although a person does not need to do anything to be saved, they ”should seek” to obey the commandments. This ”should seek” implies something non-mandatory, but merely optional. God knows exactly what they are doing, and they will have a bitter surprise at the final judgment. God gave us His laws through the prophets and Jesus to be obeyed. The Lord is not a God of uncertainties, but of clarity. Those who love and obey Him, He sends to Jesus; but those who know His laws and ignore them, are not sent to the Son. | “You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed.” Psalms 119:4
