“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you” (Isaiah 43:2).
The work of the Holy Spirit is eternal and invincible, just like that of Christ Himself. What the Spirit plants in the soul—love, patience, humility, and submission—cannot be destroyed, not even by the most intense flames. Trials only remove impurities, making what is divine in us even purer and brighter. No fire is able to consume what God has formed; it only reveals the strength and beauty of true faith.
And this strength is fully manifested in the lives of those who obey the magnificent Law of God, the same splendid commandments that Jesus and His disciples faithfully kept. Obedience preserves the virtues produced by the Holy Spirit, making the heart steadfast and incorruptible in the face of storms. God reveals His plans to the obedient and keeps them unharmed, even in the midst of the fiercest fire.
The Father blesses and sends the obedient to the Son for forgiveness and salvation. Remain faithful and do not fear the flames—the Spirit who dwells in you will make you unshakable and cause you to shine even more before the Lord. Adapted from J.C. Philpot. See you tomorrow, if the Lord allows.
Pray with me: Beloved Lord, sustain me with Your Spirit in times of trial. May the flames of affliction only purify, and never destroy, what You have planted in me.
Renew Your strength in me and keep in my heart the love, patience, and humility that come from You. May my faith remain alive and steadfast until the end.
Oh, dear Father, I thank You for the indestructible work of Your Spirit in my life. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your mighty Law is the shield that protects what is holy in me. Your commandments are pure flames that make me shine with Your glory. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
