Daily Devotional: persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but…

“persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed” (2 Corinthians 4:9).

How did God perform the miracle of the Red Sea? By surrounding His people on all sides, so that there was no way out except God’s way. The Egyptians were behind them, the sea was in front, and the mountains were all around. There was no other option but to look up. Someone once said that the devil may surround us, but he cannot cover us. We can always rise above. Our difficulties are merely God’s challenges, opportunities for us to grow and learn to seek in Him the perfect solution.

God does not require anything impossible from us to grant us His continual protection against the devil and his fallen angels. He only asks that we follow His instructions, His commandments. When we align ourselves with His laws, we enter into harmony with God, the greatest force in the universe. And, in that connection, the armies of evil have no power against us, because we are under the authority and care of the Almighty.

The situations that seem to have no way out are, in fact, divine invitations to trust completely in the Lord. Just as He opened the Red Sea for His people, God opens paths where none exist, when we follow His directions with faith and obedience. No matter how surrounded we may feel, God always has a perfect plan to lead us to victory. -Adapted from A. B. Simpson. Until tomorrow, if the Lord allows us.

Pray with me: Dear God, I recognize that, just as You did at the Red Sea, You often allow us to feel surrounded by difficulties so that we may look up and trust fully in You. Thank You for always being the way, even when we cannot see a way out. Help me to remember that, in You, there is always hope and a solution.

My Father, today I ask You to give me the courage to follow Your directions with faith and obedience, even when circumstances seem impossible. Teach me to hear Your voice and to walk in Your ways, trusting that Your protection and care are always enough to sustain me and lead me to victory.

Oh, Most Holy God, I praise You for Your incomparable faithfulness and power. You are the God who opens ways where there are none and who defeats the armies of evil with Your supreme strength. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your mighty Law is my wall against the hosts of evil. Your commandments are like gentle melodies that calm my soul and bring peace to my heart. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
