“Wide is the road that leads to destruction” (Matthew 7:13-14).

As we reflect on this warning from Jesus, we usually imagine a clear fork in the road: a wide and attractive road, contrasted with a narrow and challenging path. However, the reality is much more subtle. There is not always a defined point where the path visibly splits. In fact, the road we follow is shaped daily by our decisions. It is not a choice made just once, but a continuous journey, where each decision reveals whether we are walking the path of obedience or of complacency.

The width of the road is revealed in the ease with which we advance. If our relationship with God does not challenge us, if it does not require sacrifice, deprivation, and renunciation, then we are probably on the wide road, not the narrow one. The narrow path is not just difficult—it is lonely. Jesus was clear when He said that few find it. Those who choose this path soon realize they walk almost alone, while the wide road is always full of voices echoing justifications for straying from obedience. Whoever decides to walk the path of truth will face resistance, rejection, and even mockery. Most are not willing to pay that price.

The final proof that we are on the right path comes from our determination to follow it to the end, no matter the cost. Those who love God above all things do not hesitate to remain on the path of obedience, even when the crowd chooses to go another way. When we invite others to this journey, many question, ponder, and in the end, choose the wide road because they do not want to give up their own will. But the few who press on, facing all difficulties, are the ones who will truly reach the Kingdom. “Then the Lord said to Abram: Leave your country, your people and your father’s household, and go to the land I will show you” (Genesis 12:1).

“Then the Lord said to Abram: Leave your country.” This divine command marked the beginning of a journey that would transform not only Abraham’s life, but also the course of history. We do not know exactly how he was sure of God’s will, and speculating about it would be pointless. What matters is that Abraham was absolutely convinced that it was God who was calling him.

Unlike Abraham, we have the Scriptures, where God has already revealed His will in a complete and accessible way. He spoke through the prophets of the Old Testament and through Jesus Himself, making clear what He expects from us. We do not need to wait for special signs to know what God wants, for He has already instructed us to live in obedience to His holy Law. Just as Abraham was blessed because he chose to obey, even when it required sacrifice and renunciation, we too will be blessed when we bow before God, placing His will above our own desires.

Obedience will not always be easy, but it is the path to the greatest blessings. We must also follow Abraham’s example, trusting that as we obey God with humility, we will be led into the fullness of His promises. The true servant does not obey only when he agrees or when it is convenient, but because he recognizes that God’s will is perfect, and that following His commandments is the only way to live fully in His presence. -Adapted from J. “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul” (Luke 10:27).

Awaken, brother, and turn your heart to the Supreme Good, the One in whom all goodness resides and without whom nothing can truly be good. No creature, no matter how beautiful or generous, can fully satisfy the longings of our soul, because none of them contains the fullness of good in itself. They only reflect divine goodness, like a stream that flows from an inexhaustible fountain. But the fountain is not in the stream, it is in God. So why would we seek to stray from the fountain to drink from waters that are merely a reflection of it?

All the goodness we see in the world is an echo of what God is. He does not merely possess goodness—He is goodness itself. If we recognize this truth, how could we settle for anything less? And above all, if we need Him so much, how could we resist what He asks of us? His commandments are an invitation to plunge into the source of what is perfect and eternal. Obedience is the path to access all that is best in God.

When we choose to obey, we connect to the very essence of the Creator and His Son Jesus. It is in submission to His commandments that we find true abundance, because it is there that we drink from the source of life, righteousness, and peace. “They looked… and behold, the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud” (Exodus 16:10).

Make hope a habit. Learn to look at the brighter side of the cloud and, when you find it, keep your eyes fixed on it instead of getting lost in the darkness within. Discouragement is one of the soul’s most dangerous enemies, for it renders us powerless in the face of challenges and vulnerable to the attacks of the adversary. No matter how pressured or surrounded you may be, refuse to give in to discouragement. It settles in when we try to live apart from obedience to God, wanting His blessings without submitting to His will. But there is a secret that few perceive: obedience brings a power that renews the soul and dissipates the weight of discouragement.

God desires to strengthen us and fill us with genuine joy, but this will not happen as long as there is conscious resistance to obedience. There is no true peace for those who choose to ignore the Lord’s commandments. But the moment you decide to walk in faithfulness to His Law, everything changes. Discouragement cannot remain where there is obedience, for it is there that the Holy Spirit acts with power, quickening faith and bringing divine strength to the soul. What once seemed heavy and oppressive begins to lose its strength, because God’s presence is manifested where there is sincere surrender.

At first, you may not perceive this transformation immediately, but as you walk side by side with God, as Enoch did, the effects will become evident. The darkness will begin to dissipate, and the forces of darkness will retreat before the light that shines in the soul of one who has chosen to obey. “…for she said to herself, ‘If I only touch the hem of His garment, I will be healed’” (Matthew 9:21).

The exercise of faith must always precede healing. God does not grant His blessings randomly or indiscriminately; there is always a purpose and a spiritual condition involved. Whoever desires to receive something from the Lord must be in a state of readiness, with a humble heart willing to trust. There must be an internal movement of the soul, a sincere seeking, and a living desire to draw near to Him. Only when there is this true longing for His presence can divine virtue be released and bring about profound transformations.

God often moves in silence, and this silence can serve as a test for those who seek His help. It is not a silence of indifference, but a silence that reveals the condition of the human heart. Those who are spiritually prepared will perceive the hand of God even when everything seems quiet. They will recognize divine help and respond to it with genuine faith.

The key to this spiritual readiness is obedience. When we choose, with humility, to follow God’s commandments, we are proving to the Lord that we truly need Him and that we are willing to do whatever it takes for His will to be fulfilled in us. “And it shall be that as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of the Lord touch the waters of the Jordan, the waters shall be separated” (Joshua 3:13).

Brave Levites! Who can help but admire them as they carried the Ark into the current, knowing that the waters of the Jordan would only part when their feet touched the water? They did not hesitate, for they trusted in God’s promise. Their faith was not conditional, nor did they wait to see the miracle before acting. They simply obeyed. God always honors the faith of those who are faithful to Him. It is this combination of faith and stubborn obedience that allows us to see the promise and stand firm in it, without looking at difficulties or at the doubts of others.

We can imagine the people watching the scene, some with fear, perhaps murmuring: “They are stepping into the current! The Ark will be swept away!” But that is not what happened. The priests stood firm on dry ground, because God does not fail. He does not abandon those who trust and obey Him. The same principle applies to our spiritual journey: when we take steps of faith with total obedience, God acts. The obstacles that once seemed insurmountable dissipate, and the way opens before us.

Following God with faith and obedience makes us participants in His plans, just as the Levites played a fundamental role in crossing the Jordan. And that is a great honor. “I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread” (Psalm 37:25).

We should not underestimate the means by which God blesses us, but neither should we trust in them as if they were our ultimate source of provision. The secret is to use them with gratitude, recognizing that it is God’s blessing that makes them prosper. The bread that feeds us, the medicine that heals us, the friend who comforts us—all these are instruments, but true provision comes from the Lord. He is the one who sustains all things and grants life, health, and comfort to those who seek Him.

The wicked trust in the means and not in God; they make them their idols, placing their hope in what is temporary. When someone eats a piece of bread without recognizing that it was God who provided it, they treat the bread as their source, and not the Lord who gave it. This reveals a distorted faith, which clings to the visible and forgets the invisible, which is eternal. True faith recognizes that everything we have and receive comes from the hand of God, and that without His blessing nothing can truly sustain us.

God’s blessings are reserved for obedient children. The disobedient also enjoy the good that God pours out on the earth—after all, He makes it rain on the righteous and the unrighteous—but they do not experience the blessings that transform and build up life. Divine promises are for those who have chosen, body and soul, to follow the holy and powerful Law of God. These not only receive provision, but also live under the special protection of the Father, enjoying peace, security, and the certainty that He is with them at all times. “From the place where you are, look to the north, to the south, to the east and to the west; for all the land that you see I will give to you” (Genesis 13:14-15).

Everything you can see with the eyes of faith and obedience belongs to you. God does not limit those who trust in Him and follow His ways. Look as far as you can, because everything that God has revealed as a promise to those who serve Him is yours by right. Everything you desire to be as a Christian and all that you long to do for God is within the possibilities of faith and obedience. There are no barriers for those who surrender completely to the Lord’s will, for He Himself opens the way and grants strength so that we may reach what has been prepared for us.

Draw closer to the Father and allow His presence to transform your whole being. Open your soul to the influence of the Holy Spirit and receive the baptism of His presence. The closer we come to God, the more He reveals to us the fullness of His will, showing us that there are immeasurable spiritual treasures available to those who fear and obey Him. Believe that God has everything you need and that, by walking according to His commandments, you will experience an abundant life, filled with divine power and favor.

Accept for yourself all the promises contained in the Word of God. Do not hesitate to take possession of the desires He has placed in your heart, for these longings are signs of what He wishes to accomplish in your life. Obedience to God’s commandments opens the doors to countless blessings in this life and, above all, guarantees the greatest reward of all: eternal life in Christ. “Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise Your name” (Psalm 142:7).

I too know the prisons of the soul, and only the Lord can set me free from them. There is the prison of sin, a dark and suffocating place where light does not enter and the morning air seems unreachable. It is a pit haunted by horrible forms, as if my own iniquities had come to life, taking on frightening and repulsive shapes that torment me. No one but the Lord can bring me out of this prison, for only He holds the key that breaks the chains of sin and brings true deliverance.

And there is also the prison of sorrow, where my sorrows surround me like cold and suffocating walls, with no windows to let the light in, nor doors to allow me to escape. Sorrow becomes a solitary cell, and each tear seems to be another brick reinforcing the walls around me. But God, in His mercy, does not leave us imprisoned forever. He is the deliverer of those who turn to Him with all their heart, who repent and seek to live in obedience to His holy and perfect Law.

The prisons we face in life, whether of sin, sorrow, or any other kind, have a common origin: the refusal to obey God. But the good news is that obedience is the key to freedom. When we sincerely decide to turn to God, repent, and obey His commandments, everything changes. God, in His great love, sends His angels to break the chains that bind us, opening the doors that lead us to true deliverance. He leads us to Jesus, who is the way to salvation, full deliverance, and eternal life. In obedience, we find not only freedom, but also the peace and restoring presence of God. -Adapted from J. “And Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined; and there he was in the prison” (Genesis 39:20).

The most difficult aspect of suffering is often its duration. A brief and intense pain can be endured more easily, but when anguish persists for long periods, day after day, wearing down our strength and hope, the heart becomes vulnerable to despair. Without God’s help, it is easy to succumb. The story of Joseph in Egypt shows us that prolonged trials have a purpose. God, like a skilled refiner, allows us to go through the fire of suffering to shape our character and prepare us for something greater. As Malachi 3:3 says: “He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver.” And, like a careful craftsman, God knows exactly when the work is finished and stops the fire at the right moment.

The key to facing and even reducing the time of suffering lies in surrendering ourselves completely to God’s will. When we choose to obey His commandments, we open our hearts to His purpose and allow Him to guide us in His wisdom. This surrender not only shapes our character, but also draws us closer to the Father, who embraces us as faithful children. He blesses us abundantly and leads us to Jesus, where we find comfort, strength, and direction for our lives.

When we reach this level of relationship with God and with Jesus, we can be sure that many sufferings we face today, because of our resistance or disobedience, will be avoided. The Father is a God of mercy, and He delights in sparing His children when He sees that their hearts are fully surrendered to Him. In obedience, we find not only relief for the pains of the soul, but also the joy of living at the center of God’s will, knowing that we are being refined for His glory and for our eternal good. -Adapted from Lettie B.
