“For nothing is impossible with God” (Luke 1:37).
When Naaman hesitated to bathe in the Jordan, his objection stemmed from a lack of understanding about how that seemingly ordinary river could heal him. He compared the Jordan to the rivers of Damascus and could not see the logic in the prophet’s command. Similarly, Nicodemus questioned Jesus about spiritual rebirth, for his mind was bound to what was visible and rational. Even Thomas, after walking alongside the Lord, doubted His resurrection, for he deemed impossible that which did not fit human logic.
Since the Garden of Eden, we see how doubt enters when human understanding tries to prevail over trust in God. Eve questioned the divine prohibition until her eyes convinced her that the fruit was “good for food.” The same happens today, when many question Jesus’ promises that the Father will supply all the needs of those who seek His righteousness. But the truth remains: God’s faithfulness never fails, and His promises are for those who trust and fully obey His will.
To seek God’s righteousness means to submit our whole being—body, mind, and spirit—to His commandments. It is to follow with total dedication everything God has revealed through the prophets and through Jesus. Unreserved obedience is the proof of our trust in Him, and it is this trust that gives us the certainty that He will take care of us in every area of life. We do not need to understand all the details of how God acts; we only need to believe that He is faithful to fulfill what He has promised. -Adapted from J. H. Newman. Until tomorrow, if the Lord allows us.
Pray with me: Dear God, I recognize that, many times, my mind tries to understand Your ways through human logic, and this makes me hesitate before Your promises. Just as Naaman, Nicodemus, and Thomas faced doubts, I also find myself questioning what I do not fully understand. Help me to trust in You, even when I do not see or comprehend Your actions, knowing that Your faithfulness never fails.
My Father, I desire to seek Your righteousness with all my being—body, mind, and spirit. Teach me to obey Your commandments without reservation, trusting that as I submit to Your will, I am choosing the path of life and peace. Give me a humble heart, willing to follow all that You have revealed through the prophets and through Jesus, with the certainty that You take care of every detail of my life.
Oh, Most Holy God, I praise You because You are faithful to fulfill each one of Your promises. Thank You because I do not need to understand all the details of Your actions, but only believe that You are worthy of trust. May my life be a demonstration of obedience and faith, so that I may fully experience Your care and the blessings You have reserved for those who love and follow You. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your mighty Law is a beacon that shows me the dangers of life. If I could feed on Your commandments, they would be my favorite meal. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
