“You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the destruction that lays waste at noonday” (Psalm 91:5-6).
He has guarded and protected us from countless dangers, even when we were unaware. In the midst of our apparent safety, we could have perished at any moment, if it were not for Him sheltering us from the “terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,” saving us from the snares of our own corrupted will. He has protected us even from ourselves, rescuing us from our own destructive choices.
We need to see the traces of God’s hand in all our ways, in every event, circumstance, and change in this troubled world. He is present in every detail, wrapping us in safety and feeding us with His provision.
Let us acknowledge His faithfulness in every moment of life, both in times of calm and in times of challenge. He is the Shepherd who leads us beside still waters and also accompanies us through the driest deserts. -Adapted from Henry Edward Manning. Until tomorrow, if the Lord allows us.
Pray with me: Dear God, I thank You for Your constant protection, even when I do not perceive the danger around me. I recognize that You guard me not only from visible threats, but also from invisible dangers and even from the wrong choices my own will might lead me to make.
My Father, today I ask You to help me see the traces of Your care in every detail of my life. May I never overlook Your faithfulness, but see Your presence both in days of peace and in times of difficulty. Strengthen my trust in Your provision, whether I am in green pastures or crossing arid lands, knowing that You are always with me.
Oh, Most Holy God, I adore and praise You for being the perfect Shepherd who never abandons His sheep. Thank You for Your firm and loving hand that guides my steps and sustains me in every season of life. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your mighty Law is always with me, keeping me standing. Your beautiful commandments are a constant delight. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
