“Why are you cast down, O my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him, my help and my God” (Psalm 42:11).
Be very careful that your daily worries do not turn into anxiety and anguish, especially when you feel you are being tossed about by the winds and waves of life’s problems. Instead of despairing, keep your focus on the Lord and say, in faith: “Oh, my God, I look only to You. Be my guide, my captain.” Then, rest in that trust. When we finally arrive at the safe harbor of God’s presence, every struggle and storm will have lost its importance, and we will see that He was always in command.
We can go through any storm safely, as long as our heart remains in the right place. When our intentions are pure, our courage is firm, and our trust is anchored in God, the waves may shake us, but they will never destroy us. The secret is not in avoiding the storms, but in navigating through them with the certainty that we are in good hands—the hands of the Father, who never fails and never abandons those who truly trust in Him.
And where is this safe place, where we can have peace in this life and eternal joy at the Lord’s side? The right place is the place of obedience to the mighty Law of God. It is there, on this firm ground, that the angels of the Lord surround us with protection and the soul is washed from all earthly worry. Whoever lives in obedience walks securely, even in the midst of storms, because they know their life is in the hands of a faithful and mighty God. -Adapted from Francis de Sales. Pray with me: Dear God, I thank You because, even in the midst of life’s storms, You remain my faithful Captain. When the strong winds and waves of problems try to drag me away, I can lift my eyes and declare in faith: “Oh, my God, I look only to You.” It is You who guides my boat and calms my heart.
My Father, today I ask You to strengthen my trust in You, so that my soul will not be lost in worries and anxieties. Give me pure intentions, firm courage, and a heart anchored in Your will. Teach me to go through each storm with the serenity of one who knows they are in Your hands. And lead me to always remain in the safe place: obedience to Your mighty Law, where Your protection surrounds me and Your peace sustains me in every situation.
Oh, Most Holy God, I adore You and praise You because You are a safe refuge for those who obey You with love and faithfulness. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your mighty Law is like a firm anchor cast into the sea of life, which holds my soul even when the waves are stirred. Your commandments are like unshakable walls, protecting my spirit and lighting my path toward eternal joy. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
