“When they were alone, He explained everything to His disciples” (Mark 4:34).
Jesus does not explain everything to us all at once, but reveals truths to us as we are ready to understand them. God is constantly teaching us about ourselves. He leads us through the most hidden corners of our character, revealing aspects we often ignore. We are surprisingly unknown to ourselves! We do not easily recognize envy when it arises, nor laziness, nor pride disguised in justifications. Believing that we fully understand ourselves is one of the last remnants of human presumption to be destroyed.
The only way to gain a true understanding of who we are and where we are going is through obedience to God’s commandments. God truly draws near only to those who love Him enough to obey Him. He does not waste revelation on rebellious hearts, but leads to true understanding those who are willing to faithfully follow His will.
The light of God shines only on those who sincerely say: “Here I am. I will obey everything You have instructed me in the Word.” Obedience not only leads us to the knowledge of God, but opens our eyes to who we really are, preparing us for a life of fellowship with the Father and His Son, Jesus. The more we obey, the more we see. The more we see, the more we are transformed. And it is on this journey of obedience and enlightenment that we find the path to eternal life. -Adapted from O. Pray with me: Dear God, it is true that You reveal truth to us as we are ready to understand it. I know there is still much in me that I do not see clearly, and that my heart can hide flaws under deceptive justifications. But I do not want to live under the illusion that I already know myself completely. I want Your light to shine within me, exposing everything that needs to be transformed. Teach me to accept this process with humility, knowing that it is You who guide me on the path of truth.
My Father, today I ask You to give me an obedient heart, for I know that true understanding comes only to those who choose to follow You faithfully. I do not want to be just a hearer of Your Word, but someone who puts it into practice without hesitation. Shape my character, reveal to me who I truly am, and strengthen me to follow in obedience, for I know that only then can I walk in deeper fellowship with You. Open my eyes so that I may clearly see what I need to change and give me strength to transform myself according to Your will.
Oh, Most Holy God, I adore and praise You because Your light not only reveals who You are, but also illuminates who we really are. Thank You because You do not leave us trapped in the darkness of ignorance, but patiently lead us to the truth. May my life be a continuous journey of obedience and transformation, so that I may see more and more and be prepared to live eternally in Your presence. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your mighty Law lifts me above the storms of life. My gratitude overflows for Your commandments. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
