“They looked… and behold, the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud” (Exodus 16:10).
Make hope a habit. Learn to look at the brighter side of the cloud and, when you find it, keep your eyes fixed on it instead of getting lost in the darkness within. Discouragement is one of the soul’s most dangerous enemies, for it renders us powerless in the face of challenges and vulnerable to the attacks of the adversary. No matter how pressured or surrounded you may be, refuse to give in to discouragement. It settles in when we try to live apart from obedience to God, wanting His blessings without submitting to His will. But there is a secret that few perceive: obedience brings a power that renews the soul and dissipates the weight of discouragement.
God desires to strengthen us and fill us with genuine joy, but this will not happen as long as there is conscious resistance to obedience. There is no true peace for those who choose to ignore the Lord’s commandments. But the moment you decide to walk in faithfulness to His Law, everything changes. Discouragement cannot remain where there is obedience, for it is there that the Holy Spirit acts with power, quickening faith and bringing divine strength to the soul. What once seemed heavy and oppressive begins to lose its strength, because God’s presence is manifested where there is sincere surrender.
At first, you may not perceive this transformation immediately, but as you walk side by side with God, as Enoch did, the effects will become evident. The darkness will begin to dissipate, and the forces of darkness will retreat before the light that shines in the soul of one who has chosen to obey. Obedience is the key to a full life, filled with the presence of God, where discouragement loses its hold and heavenly peace is established permanently. -Adapted from Lettie B. Cowman. Pray with me: Dear God, it is true that hope must be a constant habit in my life, and that I need to learn to focus on the brighter side of the journey, instead of losing myself in the shadows of discouragement. I know that this enemy of the soul weakens me and makes me vulnerable, but I also understand that it only finds space when I stray from obedience to Your will. Teach me to walk in Your light, rejecting all forms of inner resistance, so that my soul may be renewed by the strength that comes from You.
My Father, today I ask You to remove from me any obstacle that prevents me from living fully in Your presence. I know that true peace can only be found in faithfulness to Your commandments, and that obedience brings with it the transforming power of Your Spirit. Help me to remain steadfast, not to give in to the weight of difficulties, and to experience the genuine joy that comes from sincere surrender.
Oh, Most Holy God, I adore and praise You because in Your presence there is no room for discouragement, only for the peace and fullness that come from You. May I never see obedience as a burden, but as the key to a life filled with Your love and Your peace, where my soul finds rest and my faith remains unshakable. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your mighty Law renews my hope every morning. Your commandments sustain me in the midst of storms. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
