“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).
The soul that desires to please God must learn to deal with injustices and irrational attitudes. There will be times when we are treated harshly or misunderstood without reason. And yet, we are called to remain at peace, aware that God sees everything with infinite clarity. Nothing escapes His eyes. What is up to us is to remain calm, faithfully do the little that is in our hands, and leave the rest in His hands.
It is by obeying the magnificent Law of the Lord that we are able to respond with balance in the face of injustice. The splendid commandments of God, given to the prophets of the Old Testament and to Jesus, train us to respond with gentleness and firmness, without allowing bitterness to take hold. When we obey the will of the Father, we learn to act without anxiety and to let what is beyond our control be treated as something distant—as if it no longer belongs to us.
Remain at peace in the face of what you cannot change. The Father blesses and sends the obedient to the Son for forgiveness and salvation. May the extraordinary commandments of the Most High be your anchor when injustice knocks at your door. Obedience brings us blessings, deliverance, and salvation—and teaches us to live above circumstances. -Adapted from F. Fénelon. Until tomorrow, if the Lord allows us.
Pray with me: Righteous and compassionate Father, teach me not to be shaken in the face of injustice. May I find rest in Your presence, even when I do not understand the reason for the trials.
Guide my steps through Your splendid Law. May Your commandments help me react with serenity and trust in Your watchful eye over all things.
Oh, beloved Lord, I thank You because You see everything that happens to me and care for me perfectly. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your powerful Law is like a shield that protects my heart from rebellion. Your commandments are like a gentle breeze that calms my troubled soul. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
