Daily Devotional: Obedient faith that perseveres through trials — Psalm 56:3

“When I am afraid, I will trust in You” (Psalm 56:3).

True faith is not learned in comfortable times. God gives His promises in moments of calm, speaks kindly, and confirms covenants with wonderful words. But afterward, He withdraws for a time—not because He has abandoned us, but to see how far the trust of the one who heard Him will go. Then the test comes, and often it seems to contradict everything God had said.

It is in these moments of trial, when everything seems to be falling apart, that faith shows its true worth. The soul must look upward even amid the storm and trust in God even when everything around it inspires fear. This is how the faithful servants prevailed—not when everything was easy, but when believing seemed impossible. Faith is crowned when it perseveres, not when it understands everything.

But this faith must be grounded in obedience. Believing without obeying is not true faith. The soul that truly trusts in God keeps His mighty Law and walks in His perfect commandments. When obedience is genuine, even the hardest test becomes an opportunity for victory, and the promise is fulfilled at the right time, exactly as God said. —Adapted from Lettie B. Cowman. Until tomorrow, if the Lord permits.

Pray with me: My Lord and God, I thank You because even when You are silent for a time, You are still with me. You have already spoken, and that is enough for me. You are faithful, and Your promises are true.

Give me a faith that does not give up, even when I am tested. Teach me to trust in You in the midst of the storm and to remember, on difficult days, everything You have already told me. May I never stray from Your ways, but continue to obey courageously, even when I see no way out.

Oh, most holy God, I adore and praise You for being the God who fulfills every word. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your mighty Law is like a firm anchor amid the waves. Your perfect commandments are like beacons shining in the darkness, guiding my soul to victory. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
