“Now the Lord said to Abram: Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you” (Genesis 12:1).

God’s command to Abraham required extraordinary faith. But was it any easier for him, as the pioneer on the journey of faith, than it is for us today, who have countless examples of faith recorded in the Scriptures? Perhaps God communicated with him in a different way than He does with us, but the difficulties and challenges he faced were just as real as those we face now.

The truth is that when God speaks, His voice becomes self-evident to those who hear Him. Regardless of the means by which He communicates—whether a supernatural sound, a deep conviction in the conscience, or an unshakable sense of duty—Abraham knew it was God calling him, and that certainty moved him to act. In the same way, God speaks to us today through the Scriptures, making clear what He expects of us. His will is revealed, and it is up to us to decide whether we will act like Abraham, obeying without question, or whether we will hesitate and miss the blessing of obedience.

Just as Abraham was guided, protected, and blessed as he followed God’s command, we too will experience this divine provision if we obey the Law of the Lord. It is only through obedience that we can be sure God will lead us to the place He has prepared for us. Until we arrive there, we can trust that His protection and His blessings will be upon those who choose to live by faith and obedience. -Adapted from A. B. Davidson. Until tomorrow, if the Lord allows us.

Pray with me: Dear God, it is true that Your voice is unmistakable to those who hear You and desire to follow You. Abraham did not hesitate when he received Your command, for he knew it was the Lord who was calling him. I want to have that same willingness, that faith that obeys without questioning, even when I cannot see the whole path ahead of me. I know You have already revealed Your will through the Scriptures, and it is up to me to decide whether I will be faithful like Abraham or allow doubt to keep me from moving forward.

My Father, today I ask You for courage to obey Your voice, even when the way seems uncertain. I know that, just as You guided and protected Abraham, You will also be with me if I choose to follow Your Law and trust in Your promises. Help me not to lose the blessing of obedience because of fear or indecision.

Oh, Most Holy God, I adore and praise You because You are a God who guides, protects, and blesses those who walk in Your ways. Thank You for leaving us Your Word as a clear direction, so that we never need to walk in darkness. May I live each day in obedience, trusting that You will lead me to the place You have prepared for those who love You and follow You faithfully. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your mighty Law is the treasure I joyfully keep. Oh, how I delight in meditating on Your beautiful commandments. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
