Daily Devotional: In the world you will have tribulation; but take heart;…

“In the world you will have tribulation; but take heart; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

It is good that, at times, we face problems and adversities, for these lead us to look within ourselves and recognize that we are exiles, whose true home and hope are not in this world. These difficulties remind us that our expectations should not be anchored in earthly things, but in God and in His eternal promises.

It is good that, from time to time, we suffer setbacks or are misunderstood, even when our intentions are pure. These experiences are valuable tools for cultivating humility in our hearts. They keep us from becoming proud and self-sufficient. In such circumstances, we seek in God the witness of our conscience, for when we are despised and discredited outwardly, we learn to depend on Him for validation and strength.

Only through obedience to God’s laws do we find true intimacy with Him. And it is in this obedience that He lifts us above the tribulations of this world. In communion with God, present difficulties lose their power, and our soul is strengthened, walking toward the eternal purpose He has prepared for us. -Adapted from Thomas à Kempis. Until tomorrow, if the Lord allows us.

Pray with me: Dear God, I thank You for the difficulties I face, for they remind me that this world is not my final home. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on Your eternal promises and to trust that every adversity has a purpose in Your sovereign will. Teach me to seek in You the strength and peace that the world cannot offer.

My Father, today I ask You to use setbacks and misunderstandings to cultivate humility in my heart. Deliver me from pride and self-sufficiency, and help me to depend entirely on You for validation and direction. May I learn to obey You, even in the most difficult circumstances, knowing that my faithfulness to You is the source of true intimacy and strength.

Oh, Most Holy God, I adore and praise You for being my refuge amid tribulations. Thank You for using even moments of suffering to shape my heart and draw me closer to You. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your mighty Law is a reliable support in my life. I cannot stop meditating on Your beautiful commandments. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
