Daily Devotional: Discovering purpose through faithful obedience — Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for evil, to give you the future for which you long” (Jeremiah 29:11).

Never complain about the circumstances God has allowed in your life. Do not grumble because of your birth, your family, your work, or the difficulties you face. God, in His perfect wisdom, makes no mistakes. He knows what you need far better than you do. When we think we would accomplish more if we were somewhere else or in a different situation, we are actually questioning the Creator’s perfect plan. Instead, we must adjust our souls, align our hearts, and accept God’s will in faith, deciding to do the work He has entrusted to us in the exact place where we are.

The truth is that the problem is not the situation but our obedience. Many do not know the path God has laid out for their lives simply because they have not yet decided to obey His powerful Law. God does not reveal His plans to those who live on the margins of obedience. He reserves direction, clarity, and revelation for those who seek Him wholeheartedly, determined to live according to the commandments given through the prophets of the Old Testament and confirmed by Jesus in the Gospels. This is the starting point: obedience.

If you want to know God’s purpose for your life, do not wait for signs or mystical experiences. Begin by obeying God’s wonderful commandments—all of them—just as Jesus and His apostles obeyed. The light will come. The way will open. And the peace of being at the center of God’s will will fill your heart. Revelation begins when obedience begins. —Adapted from Horace Bushnell. Until tomorrow, if the Lord permits.

Pray with me: Faithful Father, today I acknowledge that my complaints were the result of my failure to understand Your sovereignty. Forgive me for every time I grumbled or questioned Your choices for me. Teach me to trust Your plan, even when I do not fully understand it.

Lord, give me an obedient heart. I want to walk according to Your powerful Law, keeping all Your wonderful commandments, just as Your beloved Son and His apostles did. I know that Your guidance is revealed only to those who take You seriously. And that is what I desire: to live sincerely and faithfully to please You.

O Most Holy God, I adore You and praise You for being a wise and just Father, who never errs in the path He chooses for His children. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your powerful Law is like a heavenly map, drawn with love, that leads the sincere soul to its eternal purpose. Your commandments are like steps of light, lifting the obedient heart to the center of Your will. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
