Daily Devotional: “Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you…

“Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me” (Psalm 50:15).

Many disturbing thoughts try to rise up within us, especially in moments of weakness and loneliness. Sometimes, they seem so intense that we believe we are being overcome by them. But we must not be alarmed. Even if these thoughts enter our minds, we do not have to accept them as truth. Simply remain still, without believing in the power they seem to have, and soon they lose their strength. The silence of those who trust in God defeats the noise of anguish.

These inner struggles are part of the process of spiritual maturity. The Lord allows various trials to strengthen us. And when we choose to obey God’s splendid commandments, even without understanding everything, He works silently in our spirit. The magnificent Law that the Father gave to the prophets of the Old Testament and to Jesus is the foundation that keeps us firm in the face of mental attacks. It trains us not to listen to the lies of the enemy.

Do not fear the thoughts that come to shake you. The Father blesses and sends those who obey the Son for forgiveness and salvation. Hold firmly to the wonderful Law of God. Obedience brings us blessings, deliverance, and salvation—and gives us discernment to recognize what comes from God and what does not. -Adapted from Isaac Penington. See you tomorrow, if the Lord allows.

Pray with me: Holy God, help me not to give in to the weight of thoughts that try to destroy me. Teach me to quiet my soul and to trust in Your care, even when I see no way out.

Give me courage to remain firm in Your sublime Law. May Your commandments be my protection, my shield against everything that tries to steal my peace.

Oh, beloved Lord, I thank You because You are already working in my spirit, even when I do not perceive it. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your powerful Law is like a wall of peace around my heart. Your commandments are like anchors that keep me from being carried away by the winds of affliction. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
