“By faith, Abraham set out without knowing where he was going” (Hebrews 11:8).
Abraham began his journey without knowing the final destination. He obeyed a noble impulse, without discerning all the consequences. He took “a step” without demanding to see the whole scene from afar. This is faith: fulfilling God’s will here and now, quietly leaving the results in His hands. Faith does not worry about understanding the whole chain; it focuses its attention on the immediate link.
Faith is not the knowledge of a moral process, but faithfulness in a moral act. It is trusting God enough to obey without questioning, without needing guarantees for the future. True faith does not seek to control the path; it leaves the direction and the destination under the Lord’s care, while dedicating itself to fulfilling the present command with faithfulness and courage.
Just like Abraham, we are called to take the next step without seeing the complete picture, trusting that God, in His infinite wisdom, has already traced the perfect path. Faith acts in the present, responding to God’s immediate call, and rests in His sovereignty, knowing that He will guide each step with love and purpose. -Adapted from John Jowett. Until tomorrow, if the Lord allows us.
Pray with me: Dear God, help me to have faith like Abraham’s, to obey without demanding guarantees or understanding the whole path ahead. Teach me to trust You fully, to take the next step with courage, and to leave the results in Your hands. May I live in the present, focusing on fulfilling Your will with faithfulness and humility.
My Father, today I ask You for strength to act with confidence in the immediate call You give me. Grant me serenity to leave the direction and destination under Your care, while I put all my heart into obeying Your commands here and now. May my faith be alive, reflected in actions that glorify Your name and show my trust in Your wisdom.
Oh, Most Holy God, I adore and praise You for being a perfect and loving guide. Thank You for tracing the path ahead of me, even when I cannot see it. May my life be a testimony of faith and obedience, walking step by step in Your direction, with the certainty that You will guide each step with purpose and love. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your powerful Law never fails to keep me on the path toward heaven. I am fascinated by Your amazing commandments. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
