“Be silent before the Lord” (Zechariah 2:13).
There is rarely complete silence within us. Even on the most confusing days, there is always a whisper coming from above—the voice of God, gentle and constant, trying to guide, comfort, and direct us. The problem is not that God is silent, but that the rush, the noise, and the distractions of the world drown out that divine whisper. We are so busy trying to solve everything our own way that we forget to stop, listen, and surrender. But when the chaos loses its strength, and we take a step back—when we slow down and let our hearts become calm—that is when we can hear what God has always been saying.
God sees our pain. He knows every tear, every anguish, and delights in offering us relief. But there is a condition that cannot be ignored: He will never act powerfully on behalf of those who insist on disobeying what He has already revealed so clearly. The commandments the Lord gave through His prophets and through Jesus in the Gospels are eternal, holy, and non-negotiable. To disregard them is to walk toward darkness, even while thinking we are on the right path. Disobedience distances us from the voice of God and deepens our suffering.
But the path of obedience changes everything. When we choose to be faithful—when we listen to the Lord’s voice and follow it with courage—we make room for Him to act freely in our lives. It is in this fertile soil of faithfulness that God plants deliverance, pours out blessings, and reveals the way of salvation in Christ. Make no mistake: only those who obey hear the voice of God. Only those who surrender to His will are set free. And only those who walk the narrow road of obedience to the mighty Law of the Most High are saved. -Adapted from Frederick William Faber. See you tomorrow, if the Lord allows.
Pray with me: Lord, amid the noise of this world and the confusion of my own thoughts, teach me to silence everything that keeps me from hearing Your voice. I know You never stop speaking—You are constant, faithful, present—but I so often get lost in distractions. Help me to slow down, to pause before Your presence, and to recognize the gentle whisper of Your Spirit guiding me with love. May I not run from Your voice, but desire it more than anything else.
Father, I acknowledge that Your will has already been clearly revealed, through the prophets and through Your beloved Son. And I know I cannot ask for direction, comfort, or blessing if I continue to ignore Your commandments. Do not let me be deceived, thinking I follow You while disobeying Your Law. Give me a humble, steadfast, and faithful heart—ready to obey without reservation, to walk the narrow road that leads to life.
Act freely in me, Lord. Plant Your truth in my heart, water it with Your Spirit, and cause faithfulness, peace, and salvation to bear fruit. May my life be fertile ground for Your work, and may obedience be my daily yes to Your will. Speak, Lord—I want to hear You, I want to follow You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
