“Be alert and watchful. The Devil, your enemy, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8).
As long as we live, we will never be completely free from temptations, because their source is within us—our nature inclined to sin since birth. When one temptation or trial ends, another arises. There will always be something to face and endure, for we have lost the original happiness that was given to us. However, it is through patience and true humility that we become stronger than all our enemies.
The temptations that regularly beset us can be drastically reduced when we stand firmly within the will of God. When we surrender our hearts and are willing to fully obey His commandments, we find strength and protection against the enemy’s attacks. Obedience is like a shield, keeping distractions at bay and maintaining our focus on communion with God.
Living in God’s will not only reduces temptations but also gives us an inner peace that strengthens our resistance. The more we align our lives with divine precepts, the less room we give to sin. Faithfulness to God transforms what once seemed like a constant battle into a journey of spiritual growth, leading us to a fuller life, closer to the Lord. -Adapted from Thomas à Kempis. Until tomorrow, if the Lord allows us.
Pray with me: Dear God, I recognize that as long as I live I will face temptations and trials, for the inclination to sin is in my nature. Help me to deal with these struggles with patience and humility, trusting in You to strengthen and protect me against the enemy’s attacks. Teach me to see in every challenge an opportunity for growth and closeness with You.
My Father, today I ask You to align my heart with Your will and help me to faithfully obey Your commandments. May my life be a reflection of Your truth, strengthened by communion with You. Give me the courage and determination to resist the distractions of sin and always seek the path You have prepared for me.
Oh, Most Holy God, I adore and praise You for being my fortress amid struggles. Thank You for the peace and strength I find in Your presence, which transforms my battles into steps of spiritual growth. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your mighty Law keeps me connected to You. How sweet are Your commandments to my taste. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
