Daily Devotional: “And if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves…”

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, and pray, and seek me, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sins and heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14).

Sometimes, to draw very close to God and have true fellowship with Him, we need to make some sincere confessions. There’s no use wanting the blessing if we are holding sins in our heart, with no willingness to admit and abandon them. It’s like a tightly capped bottle under Niagara Falls: the water is there in abundance, but nothing gets in while the cap is not removed. Men who had real power with God in prayer always began by confessing everything, like Jeremiah and Daniel, who, even without great recorded faults, humbly placed sin before the Lord.

For that confession to be complete and lead us to victory, it must go hand in hand with obedience to the Father’s radiant and majestic commandments. Obedience is not optional; it is what removes obstacles, opens the way for blessings and allows the Father to send us to the Son for full forgiveness and restoration.

So stop right now and ask God what needs to be confessed and abandoned today. Do this honestly, decide to obey His commandments in all things and you will see how communion with Him becomes deep and powerful. This is the practical way to receive everything God has prepared for you. Adapted from D. L. Moody. Until tomorrow, if the Lord permits.

Pray with me: Dear Father, thank You because You do not withdraw from us on account of our mistakes, but invite us to confession to draw closer to You. Help me to have the courage to look into my heart and bring to light everything that still displeases You.

Give me, Lord, humility to confess without excuses, willingness to abandon sin once and for all, and a burning desire to obey Your commandments with joy.

Oh, my beloved God, I thank You for teaching that sincere confession opens the doors to Your abundant presence. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your powerful Law is a pure flame that cleanses and enlightens my life. Your commandments are a path of freedom that lead me straight to Your heart. I pray in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.
