Daily Devotional: Abraham was called a friend of God (James 2:23).

“Abraham was called a friend of God” (James 2:23).

Have you ever stopped to think about what it means to be called a “friend of God”? Look at his life and notice an undeniable truth: Abraham did not earn this title by chance or mere goodwill. He grew in faith, yes, but that faith was tested and shaped through absolute trust in God. Make no mistake: God does not accept shortcuts. He does not expect you to skip steps or reach the top overnight, but He requires you to walk step by step on the path He has set. There is no other way to grow in faith except by fully trusting the Lord and His perfect purpose.

Now, stop and reflect on the challenges Abraham faced. He did not become the “Father of Faith” because of beautiful feelings or empty promises. He was tested to the limit, and the ultimate test came when God said: “Take your son, your only son, whom you love.” Climbing Mount Moriah was not an emotional choice; it was an act of unwavering faith. Even with a broken heart, Abraham pressed on, because he knew that pleasing God requires more than words—it requires total obedience to His will. Do not be deceived: the most precious jewels are cut with precision, and the purest gold is tested in the hottest fire. God uses trials to reveal who is truly willing to trust Him, without hesitation or excuses.

True faith requires action, period. There is no room for bargaining or justifications when it comes to following God. Abraham did not negotiate, did not question, did not try to adapt God’s plans to his own understanding. He trusted and obeyed, because he knew that obedience to God’s Law is the only path to real intimacy with the Creator. Do you want to be a friend of God? Do you want a faith that withstands any test? Then obey the Lord’s commandments, without wavering, without compromise. Take the Word of God and live out each ordinance, each instruction, with absolute determination. There is no other option for those who wish to walk with God. -Adapted from Lettie B. Cowman. Until tomorrow, if the Lord allows us.

Pray with me: Dear God, it is true that being called Your friend is not a title given by chance, but something achieved through faith and obedience. I know that Abraham was not recognized as Your friend just by words, but because he trusted You without reservation and followed every instruction You gave him. I want to learn from him and grow in faith, walking step by step on the path You have set for me, without shortcuts, without excuses, just fully trusting in Your will.

My Father, today I ask You to strengthen me to face trials without wavering. I know that true faith is not theoretical, but practical, and that pure gold is only revealed through fire. I do not want to be someone who only talks about faith, but someone who acts with total obedience, even when the challenges are great. Give me a resolute heart, able to say “yes” to You in every circumstance, without trying to adapt Your will to my own understanding.

Oh, Most Holy God, I adore and praise You because You have chosen to walk with those who obey You. I know there is no friendship with You without total submission to Your Law, and for this reason, I want to live out each of Your commandments with zeal and determination. Thank You for guiding me on the path of faith and because Your presence is the greatest treasure I can have. May my life reflect this true friendship, based not only on words, but on unwavering obedience. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your mighty Law is like a dear mother, always nourishing me with strength and faith. I love Your commandments, for they are the manna that sustains my hungry heart. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
