Daily Devotional: Sincere prayer accompanied by obedience — Matthew 7:7

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you” (Matthew 7:7).

The Lord, in His goodness, opens doors and opportunities before us—and even in earthly matters, He invites us to ask: “Ask for whatever you want Me to give you.” But asking is not an empty act. True prayer springs from a sincere heart, willing to take steps toward what it has asked for. God does not reward laziness or pour out blessings on shallow desires. Those who truly ask show their sincerity through action, perseverance, and commitment to the means God Himself has established.

It is precisely here that obedience to the Lord’s magnificent Law becomes essential. The commandments are not obstacles to receiving what we ask for, but the sure paths by which He leads us to what He wants to give us. Prayer accompanied by effort and faithfulness is of great value before the Father. And when we ask and walk according to His will, we can be certain that the outcome will be a blessing.

The Father blesses the obedient and sends them to the Son for forgiveness and salvation. If you have been crying out for something, examine whether you have been walking in the right ways. God honors faith expressed through action, and sincere prayer, when joined with obedience, transforms lives. —Adapted from F. W. Farrar. Until tomorrow, if the Lord permits.

Pray with me: Beloved Father, help me to sincerely seek all that I need. May my words before You not be empty or hasty, but spring from a heart that truly honors You.

Give me the willingness to act according to Your will and to follow the steps that You Yourself have prepared. Teach me to value Your ways and remain steadfast in them as I await the answer to my prayers.

Oh, my faithful God, I thank You for teaching me that true prayer goes hand in hand with obedience. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your mighty Law is the map that guides me in every decision. Your commandments are like paths of light guiding me toward Your promises. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
