“On the day you eat of it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil” (Genesis 3:5).
Adam’s fall was marked by an act of disobedience that distanced man from the Creator, breaking the perfect harmony that existed between God and His creation. At that moment, Adam usurped for himself a position that belongs only to God, seeking autonomy and honor that were not rightfully his. This estrangement brought devastating consequences: he lost the divine image that had been freely given to him, lost the natural righteousness he possessed, and the holiness that adorned his existence. His mind became darkened and blind, his will rebelled against God, and all his spiritual faculties became deeply alienated from the Creator.
This state of corruption was not limited to Adam, but contaminated all humanity through natural generation. All men inherited this evil, carrying within themselves the weight of original sin. However, the solution to this error is not found in collective actions, but in an individual decision. Each of us is called to do the opposite of what was done in Eden: instead of disobeying, we are called to obey God’s commandments, with a firm and unwavering decision to live according to His will.
When we make this decision to obey all the commandments of the Creator, we are restored to our original condition of fellowship with God. In this state of obedience, the Father leads us to the Son, who offers us forgiveness and eternal life. Thus, what was lost in Eden can be recovered by our choice to submit to the divine will, returning to the path of righteousness, holiness, and peace with the Lord. -Adapted from Johann Arndt. Until tomorrow, if the Lord allows us.
Pray with me: Dear God, it is true that Adam’s disobedience brought separation between us and Your perfect plan for humanity. I acknowledge that original sin has darkened our minds, rebelled our wills, and distanced us from Your holiness. Help me to understand the depth of this fall and the urgent need to reverse this path through obedience to Your commandments, which are just and holy.
My Father, today I ask You to plant in my heart a firm desire to live in total obedience to You, rejecting the disobedience we have inherited and choosing a path of faithfulness. Give me strength to make the daily decision to submit to Your will, seeking to restore my fellowship with You and to experience the righteousness and peace that only You can offer. Guide me, Lord, and lead me to Your Son, in whom I find forgiveness and eternal life.
Oh, Most Holy God, I worship and praise You because You offer us the chance to recover what was lost in Eden. Thank You for being a merciful God, who calls us back into fellowship with You through obedience and faith. I exalt Your name, for I know that in Your presence there is holiness, righteousness, and peace. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your mighty Law is my faithful beacon, always lighting my path. I love Your commandments, for they are like the dawn that renews hope in my heart. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
