Daily Devotional: Our citizenship, however, is in heaven, from where we eagerly await…

“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ” (Philippians 3:20).

Our citizenship is in heaven, and we need to see everything on earth as temporary. “All these things have vanished like a shadow,” and we too will disappear along with them. Do not cling to them, for this can imprison your soul and lead you to perdition. Keep your thoughts fixed on the Most High and on Jesus, without ceasing, remembering that our true home is with the Father.

We should focus not on the few years we have here, but on eternity alongside God and Jesus. That is why it makes perfect sense to seek in prayer what God desires from us, and what He desires is simple and clear: our obedience to everything that was revealed by the prophets and by Jesus. This is the key to living in harmony with God’s eternal plan.

When we align our hearts with the Father’s will, our priorities change. We begin to live with our eyes on eternity, not on the fleeting things of this world. Obeying what God has revealed is not just a duty, but an expression of love and trust in Him, and this is how we prepare for what truly matters: eternal life at the Lord’s side. -Adapted from Thomas à Kempis. See you tomorrow, if the Lord allows.

Pray with me: Dear God, I thank You for reminding me that my true citizenship is in heaven, and that all things on earth are temporary. Help me to keep my heart and my thoughts fixed on You and on Your Son, Jesus, so that I do not cling to what is temporary, but live in preparation for eternity by Your side.

My Father, today I ask You to align my heart with Your will, teaching me to live in obedience to what You have revealed through the prophets and through Jesus. May my priorities reflect what is eternal and not what is transient. Give me the wisdom and strength to fulfill Your commandments as an expression of love and trust in You.

Oh, Most Holy God, I praise You for Your promise of an eternal dwelling by Your side. Thank You for reminding me of what truly matters and for guiding me on the path of life. May my obedience and faithfulness be a demonstration of the hope I have in Your future glory, as I joyfully await the day when I will be with You forever. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your law is my faithful beacon on my journey. Your commandments are treasures of great value that I keep with care, for in them I find true happiness. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
