“I will teach you the way of wisdom and lead you along a straight path” (Proverbs 4:11).
It is true: we have very little control over the circumstances of this life. We do not know what awaits us tomorrow, nor can we prevent certain events that strike us without warning. Things such as accidents, losses, injustices, illnesses, or even the sins of other people—all of these can, in an instant, turn our lives upside down. But despite this external instability, there is something no one can control for us: the direction of our soul. That decision is ours, every day.
No matter what the world throws at us, we have complete freedom to choose to obey God. And in this chaotic world, where everything changes rapidly, God’s powerful Law becomes our safe refuge. It is firm, unchanging, and perfect. When we stop following the crowd—which often despises the ways of the Lord—and choose to obey the Creator’s magnificent commandments, even if we must stand alone, we find what everyone seeks but few discover: protection, true peace, and genuine freedom.
And there is more: this choice to obey not only blesses us in this life, but also leads us to the greatest gift of all—salvation through Jesus, the Son of God. He is the fulfillment of the promise made to those who obey with faith and sincerity. The world may collapse around us, but if our soul is grounded in the Law of the Lord, nothing will be able to destroy us. This is the true security that comes from above. —Adapted from John Hamilton. Pray with me: Beloved Father, I acknowledge that many things in this life are beyond my control. But I praise You because the direction of my soul is in my hands, and I choose to entrust it to You with confidence. Even amid chaos, I want to remain steadfast in Your ways.
Lord, strengthen my heart so that I will not follow the majority, but will obey You faithfully. May I embrace Your powerful Law with love and reverence, and may my life be a testimony to Your peace amid uncertainty. Help me keep Your magnificent commandments, even when everyone around me chooses to ignore them.
O Most Holy God, I worship and praise You for being the unchanging God in an unstable world. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your powerful Law is like a firm rock amid the storm, sustaining the feet of those who obey You with faith. Your commandments are like protective wings that cover the obedient soul with grace, guidance, and salvation. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
