“Enter through the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it” (Matthew 7:13).
Human life is marked by its mobility and constant change. We are not permanent inhabitants of this world; we are travelers, always on the move, with staff in hand and dust gathering on our sandals. We are all on a journey, moving forward, accompanied by a great multitude traveling the same path, while others follow us from afar, watching our steps. On this journey, there is no permanent rest, neither by day nor by night.
This journey is serious and demands reflection, for each of us is moving toward one of two destinations: salvation or destruction. This process takes place in our soul, continuously, as we live and choose whom to serve. God, in His goodness, has not hidden from us the way to eternal life. He made it clear that only two things are necessary: to believe that Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, and to faithfully obey His Law. These two simple and direct conditions are what set us on the right path and lead us to the final destination God has prepared.
However, millions choose to ignore these clear requirements. Many decide to reject God’s commandments, living in disobedience, while others deny that Jesus is the one sent by God, the only one capable of reconciling humanity with the Creator. This choice, whether deliberate or unconscious, distances them from eternal life and leads them down a path of destruction. Yet to all, God offers the chance to change direction, to believe and obey, so that they may find true life and the eternal purpose He has reserved for those who follow Him. -Adapted from James Hastings. Until tomorrow, if the Lord allows us.
Pray with me: Dear God, I recognize that I am a traveler in this world, always on the move, with each step shaping my eternal destiny. I ask You to guide my steps on the right path, so that my journey may bring me closer to You, clothing me in Your image and keeping me away from the snares of corruption and weakness.
My Father, help me to remember the two conditions You have set before us: to believe that Jesus is the Lamb of God and to faithfully obey Your Law. May my faith in Jesus be firm and my obedience to Your commandments constant, so that I may walk safely toward the destination You have prepared for Your children.
Oh, Most Holy God, I praise You for offering everyone the opportunity to change direction, to abandon the path of destruction and to follow the way of eternal life. Thank You for revealing Your will so clearly and for calling us, in Your mercy, to believe and obey. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your mighty Law is permanently written on my heart. Your commandments are like stars that light up the dark nights of my life, bringing hope and direction. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
