“The righteous will live by faith” (Hebrews 10:38).
Appearance and feelings, although part of the Christian experience, cannot replace faith and obedience. Pleasant emotions and moments of deep spiritual satisfaction are gifts that enrich our walk with God, but they should not be the foundation of our relationship with Him. When we live in obedience to His commandments, we can trust that He is with us, even in times when our emotions do not reflect this reality.
Many face difficulties because they try to base their Christian walk on emotions instead of faith and obedience. This approach is dangerous, as emotions are volatile and can deceive us. God’s presence in our lives does not depend on what we feel, but on His faithfulness and our response in obeying Him. We must understand that the reality of God’s presence is constant, even when we do not experience the emotion of that reality.
Without obedience, faith does not bear fruit nor attract divine blessings and protection. A person may be moved by a sermon or touched by a song, but if they are not willing to obey God’s commandments, that emotion will be superficial and fleeting. True connection with God comes from a life surrendered to His will, grounded in genuine faith and obedience to His words revealed by Jesus and the prophets. It is in this surrender that we find the peace, protection, and blessings that only He can give. -Adapted from Lettie B. Cowman. Until tomorrow, if the Lord allows us.
Pray with me: Dear God, I thank You for teaching me that my relationship with You should not be based on emotions, but on faith and obedience to Your Word. Although moments of joy and spiritual satisfaction are gifts that enrich my walk, help me to remember that true security lies in knowing that You are with me, even when my feelings do not reflect this reality.
My Father, I ask You for wisdom not to base my Christian life on fleeting experiences, but on the certainty of Your promises and obedience to Your commandments. Teach me to live in accordance with Your will, even in times of difficulty or uncertainty.
Oh, Most Holy God, I praise You because You are faithful and constant, regardless of the fluctuations of my emotions. Thank You for calling me to a life of total surrender, where faith and obedience produce lasting fruit. May my connection with You be grounded in Your will and in the certainty that, by obeying You, I find the peace, protection, and blessings that only You can give. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your mighty Law never allows me to be confused. Each one of Your commandments is more beautiful than the other. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
