“I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty” (John 6:35).
Human beings are always searching for nourishment for the soul and rest for the heart, but often look in the wrong places. The world promises to satisfy, but never delivers what truly sustains us within. When a person insists on this path, they end up tired, frustrated, and empty. True sustenance and true rest are only found when we draw near to the Shepherd.
It is at this point that the radiant commandments of the Creator show their practical importance. The Law given to the prophets of the Old Testament and by Jesus guides us where to seek true nourishment and safe rest. God leads the obedient close to what is pure, keeping them away from distractions that only weary the soul. Obedience puts us in the right place to receive care, direction, and protection.
Today, the decision is before you: continue searching in the world, or choose to walk according to God’s will. By following the incomparable commandments of the Lord, you will be led to the place where the soul is strengthened and the heart finds rest. This path neither deceives nor disappoints. This is how the Father blesses and prepares the obedient to be sent to Jesus. Adapted from J.C. Philpot. See you tomorrow, if the Lord allows.
Pray with me: Lord, I recognize that many times I have sought rest and satisfaction where they do not exist. I want to learn to seek only where You are and where my soul can truly be nourished. Lead me closer to You.
Give me strength to obey, sensitivity to recognize Your direction, and steadfastness to remain on the right path. Keep me away from illusions that only tire me, and teach me to choose what brings life. May my steps be guided by Your will.
Oh beloved Lord, I thank You for showing me where to find true nourishment and rest. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your mighty Law is like abundant pasture that strengthens the weary soul. Your commandments are pure springs that sustain the thirsty heart. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
