“For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding” (Proverbs 2:6).
A life that is completely leveled, without challenges, would destroy any man. Continuous prosperity, without interruptions, would be his ruin. Many can endure adversity, but few can bear the weight of success. We know people who have prospered greatly — however, almost always, along with that prosperity came the loss of godliness, the turning away from the eternal perspective, the forgetting of the heavenly city whose builder is God. The things of earth easily pull the heart away from the things of heaven.
And it is precisely for this reason that the magnificent Law of God and His great commandments become even more essential. Obedience keeps the heart anchored in the eternal, not in the temporary. All faithful servants — prophets, apostles, and disciples — have learned that prosperity can seduce, but the Law of God guards and directs. The Father only reveals His plans to the obedient, and only these are sent to the Son for forgiveness and salvation. Those who live by the commandments are not lost in riches, because they know their true inheritance is in the Kingdom.
Therefore, watch your heart when things are going well. Let obedience be your foundation, not circumstances. Thus, even in times of prosperity, your love will remain firm, your priorities aligned, and your soul safe in the hands of God. Adapted from D. L. Moody. See you tomorrow, if the Lord allows.
Pray with me: Beloved Father, guard my heart so that prosperity never leads me away from Your path. Teach me to discern what is eternal from what is temporary.
My God, strengthen me to live in faithfulness, regardless of what I have or do not have. May my eyes always be fixed on the heavenly city that You have prepared.
Oh, beloved Lord, I thank You because obedience protects me from the deceptions of this life. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your mighty Law is the firm support of my soul. Your commandments are the compass that keeps my heart on the right path. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
