Daily Devotional: “The Lord has established His throne in the heavens, and His kingdom…

“The Lord has established His throne in the heavens, and His kingdom rules over all” (Psalm 103:19).

We can be certain, by faith, that everything that happens to us is under the sovereign control of God’s holy and loving will. From the smallest details to the most significant events in our lives, every change of season, every pain or joy, every loss or provision—everything reaches us by the permission of the One who governs all things. Nothing comes to us by chance. Even what comes through human wickedness or the negligence of others still happens to us within the boundaries defined by the Lord.

This is why we need to hold firmly to the majestic Law of God. The splendid commandments that the Father gave to the prophets of the Old Testament and to Jesus teach us to rest in divine sovereignty. Obedience protects us against rebellion and murmuring. It reminds us that the God we serve never loses control, never abandons His children, and never allows anything outside the plan of redemption and sanctification that He Himself is working in us.

Trust, even when you do not understand. The Father blesses and sends the obedient to the Son for forgiveness and salvation. May the magnificent commandments of the Lord be the foundation that sustains your faith in uncertain times. Obedience brings us blessings, deliverance, and salvation—and teaches us to see God’s hand even in the circumstances that challenge us most. Adapted from Edward B. Pusey. See you tomorrow, if the Lord allows.

Pray with me: Sovereign and loving Father, teach me to recognize Your hand in all things. May I not doubt Your presence, even when the paths seem dark.

Lead me with Your glorious commandments. May Your holy Law shape my vision, so that I may learn to rest in You in every detail of life.

Oh, beloved Lord, I thank You because nothing escapes Your hands. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior. Your mighty Law is like a firm rock amid the chaos of the world. Your commandments are like eternal pillars that uphold my trust in You. I pray in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
