“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for many days” (Psalm 23:6).
The soul of the righteous does not need to prove its immortality through logical arguments—it perceives it through something higher: living communion with God. When the heart is purified and illuminated by true holiness, it becomes sensitive to the divine presence. And that presence surrounds, warms, and assures it: God will never abandon the life He Himself has breathed into us. The soul that deeply longs for Him is, in fact, responding to the very breath of the Creator moving within it.
It is through obedience to the radiant Law of God that this communion deepens. The magnificent commandments given to the prophets of the Old Testament and to Jesus set us apart from the world and tune us to the Father. Obedience makes us receptive to the “divine radiations”—the subtle yet powerful touches of the Spirit. And when these eternal aspirations arise within us, they are not mere emotions: they are echoes of God’s will, seeds of eternity planted by Him.
Do not ignore the holy desires that spring up in your soul. The Father blesses and sends the obedient to the Son for forgiveness and salvation. May the splendid commandments of the Lord strengthen in you this living union with the Eternal. Obedience brings us blessings, deliverance, and salvation—and gives us the assurance that, if He intended to destroy us, He would never have revealed so much to us. Adapted from John Smith. Teach me, O God, to live in faithfulness to Your magnificent Law. May Your commandments awaken in me an ever-increasing longing for You, and may I never resist Your breath of life within me.
Oh, beloved Lord, I thank You because, by showing me Your light, You confirm that You desire to keep me with You for all eternity. Your beloved Son is my eternal Prince and Savior.
